Christmas Party!!!

Who:  Any homeschooling family who has children in the age ranges of preschool-2nd grade.  Younger or older children are welcome...however the activities will be geared for this age range.

What:  A Christmas party!

When:  Wednesday, December 19 ***please note this is a date change***
           10:00AM-11:30AM

Where:  Grace Lutheran-- 2225 Washington Street (one block south of A street)
**Parking lot is off of 23rd St.**
**Go in through the main entrance and proceed to the gym**

Kids:  We will play games, have a gift exchange, and have snacks!

Sooooo.....if you want your child to participate in the optional gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift (please limit the cost of the gift to only a few dollars).  We will split into groups based on gender so it is ok if you have your boy bring a boy specific gift and your girl bring a girl gift.

Moms:  If you would like to participate in a cookie exchange, please bring your favorite Christmas goody in quantities of a dozen.  If you bring 3 dozen treats, you will be able to pick out 3 dozen of someone elses treats.  If you bring 4 dozen...you get to take home 4 dozen!  This is a great opportunity for families who like a variety of Christmas goodies, but don't have the time to make the variety!

RSVP:  Please let me know if you plan to attend by December 17th, so I can provide enough snacks for everyone and buy enough game materials.

Let me know if you have any questions!! Hope to see you there!!

And thank you Sara S for arranging this facility at her church!!!

Dairy Store & Tractor Museum

I did not have anyone volunteer to head up a second day for the dairy store/tractor museum tours.  So I haven't been able to take new families to sign up for the original day.  If anyone has the desire to do a similar tour at any other time...let me know and I can publish this on this blog for you.

If you signed up...you should have received a reminder e-mail from me.

Still working on the November meet-up!

I am still working on the November meet-up!  There are quiet a few logistical issues...one being for the dairy tour they only take 10 kids on a tour at a time and each tour last 15 minutes.  So since we have close to 50 signed up...there will be a lot of waiting.  I have already worked out with the tour operator about staggering start times and will be e-mailing everyone who has signed up as of yesterday (9/11/12).  (see announcements in previous posts)  This e-mail will be send during the first week of October.

I am looking for someone that would like to head up a second day for this same type of field trip....dairy tour and tractor museum.  Maybe the Wednesday prior? Or really any other day.  I believe the tractor museum is closed on Mondays.  I will be able to field e-mails from everyone and can provide a list of those attending a few days prior so you know who will be attending.  Let me know if you have an interest in being in charge for a second tour day.

Until another day is scheduled....I am going to stop taking rsvp's.  I didn't anticipate doing this....but I am going to put a temporary hold on it right now until I can work a few things out.

Another reason why I am going to stop taking rsvp's is because I will be traveling from Monday, September 17-September 30.  I will have limited access to e-mail.  So when I get back and settled, hopefully I will have a volunteer to head up an alternate date and we can start taking reservations for this new date.  Thank you in advance for understanding.  If you do e-mail me...and you don't hear back...you know why.  I am not ignoring you:)

For those of you who toured Memorial Stadium...I hope you enjoyed it as much as my family did.   I was not able to meet everyone.  :( If I didn't get a chance to introduce myself...hopefully we can meet-up at Roca in October or even the Christmas party in December!!

Updates on field trips....

As of 9/10-- Memorial Stadium--  can not take any more reservations.  She was a little nervous when I called and said we were over by a few.  Sorry!

Tractor Museum & Dairy Tour-- as of right now I am going to stop taking reservations for this.  We are allowed to have between 10-20 per tour at these locations because apparently they are small.  I have never been, but that is what they told me over the phone.  We have 40 people signed up right now.  I am going to call to set up a second tour and will have to take volunteers to switch times.  I honestly didn't think these field trips would be so popular and hate cutting it off....

I will be seeking volunteers to be the go to person for the second tour....so let me know if you are interested...I will know more details when I call.  Hoping to just stagger the start times a bit and keep the same day.

If you were not able to get in on this tour and would like to arrange your own tour...please let me know and I can forward you the information and I will send people to you for sign-up.  Again...I did not anticipate the excitement over these field trips and I apologize if you didn't get in on this activity.

Memorial Stadium Tour!!!

So far we have 50 adults/children confirmed for the upcoming Memorial Stadium tour!!!!  So.....if you have not officially sent me an e-mail to RSVP with your numbers you have until September 4th to do so.  I need to call in our official number so they will have enough tour guides available.  As of right now they will be splitting us into two groups.  Families will need to stick together.  We will meet right inside the main entrance....lots of photo ops of National Championship trophies and other husker memorabilia while we wait.  I will try to be right up front to introduce myself....we will see how that goes with 4 kids in tow!!

Check the "calendar" link above for more details about the tour!!

Don't forget to wear your husker red and bring a camera!!!

Strawberry picking date- date & location change!!

UPDATE:  5/23-- and this patch is closed as well for now:(

Roca Berry Farm-- our May 30th meet-up has been cancelled. Their strawberry crop has been ruined because of the cold nights...first time in 31 years!
Martin's Hillside Orchard (right outside of Ceresco, Nebraska-- North of Lincoln) has already opened for the season.
Their picking season is limited to only a few weeks...so if anyone would like to join us to pick strawberries there-- we will be picking on Wednesday, 5/23 at 10:30am.  We will be packing a lunch also.
It is supposed to be hot outside...so bring plenty of water, sunscreen, hats, and a container to hold your strawberries in.  Containers are also available to purchase.  Your kids will get messy (if they are like mine, so dress them in play clothes).
Link to their orchard and directions:  HERE!
Please note-- the patch sometimes closes at the last minute as they wait for more strawberries to ripen...I will post any changes to the blog...so check here before you leave.  I will call them in the morning before I head out.
THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS.  SO BRING CASH OR CHECK.
This is a small family run farm.
E-mail me if you are coming so I can look for you in the fields!

Other ideas for activities??

I hope everyone had a good time at the fire station tour!  Hopefully the 2nd tour didn't get interrupted by an emergency call...I was worried that something would happen and the tour would be cancelled...so let me know how it went for the 2nd group!

Also if anyone wanted to post other things that they are attending...and would like company from other Homeschool Friends Meet-up families...feel free to post on Facebook or I can put a post on the blog...I know it is a little harder during the winter months to do things outside..but some indoor ideas are: Ager Play center, Children's Museum, Morrill Hall, Westfield Mall Play area, McDonald's or Runza playcenters... just to name a few.

For example-- we are planning on going swimming at the Cooper Y between 10:30am-11:30am this Friday, February 24th...if anyone has a Y membership join us!

Hope everyone is doing well!
